Our Response to NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness

To whom it may concern:

As state chapter president I am appalled to see a mention of NJ Oath Keepers on the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness website under Militia Extremists.

Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of current and former serving military members, reserves, LEO’s, sheriffs officers, politicians, first responders, security personal, firefighters and other citizens who have taken the oath to support and defend the constitution of the United States. We are a constitution education outreach group to our brothers and sisters who wear the uniform. Our educational outreach is extended to all those who wear the uniform and our state wide meetings have been attended by NJ law enforcement, politicians and sheriffs alike. All of our activities are 100% lawful. A large portion of our membership are veterans who have served this country well.

You classify us as a “militia” and consider us “extremists”? Shame on you.

These are the facts that you obviously have wrong (check them out):

1. New Jersey Oath Keepers is not a militia and we conduct no exercises to support such.
2. New Jersey Oath Keepers are good citizens, peaceful, law abiding and always stand ready to help those in our community.
3. New Jersey Oath Keepers has never threatened or advocated violence or hatred towards any person or group.
4. New Jersey Oath Keepers membership is open to all religions races, sexual orientation and genders.
5. New Jersey Oath Keepers is not an anti-government group or has advocated in any way the overthrow of the NJ or Federal government
6. New Jersey Oath Keepers simply stands for teaching of the constitutional and civil rights are all Americans

In view of this release, and if an immediate retraction of the scurrilous statement against NJ Oath Keepers is not made; New Jersey Oath Keepers are prepared to take this matter to the governors office and your director Chris Rodriguez office . We are also contemplating filing slander and/or defamation charges against the person or persons responsible for putting this list together and defaming our good name.

If we do not hear from you in three days of this writing we will need to take the next step and bring this matter to the directors office. Thank you.

Dennis A LaGrua
State President
New Jersey Oath Keepers

Gov. Christie: Oath Keepers aren’t terrorists. As a matter of fact, if you’re doing your job right, you’re an oath-keeper. After all those gushing things you had to say about Christopher Rodriguez when you appointed him New Jersey Homeland Security and Preparedness Director, you have a vested interest in him getting things right. Please have him stop taking political talking points from leftist groups and stop tarring patriots currently serving in or retired from the military, law enforcement and first responder professions as “domestic terrorists.”

Send Governor Christie our message via e-mail: Cut and paste the above message and use “Law and Public Safety” as the Email Topic.  If you can, consider a call, 609-292-6000, but remember “WE” are in this together, so be cordial or just send a snail mail.
